What is a fat quarter?
A yard of fabric is cut off of the bolt. A second cut is made at the half-yard point (18"). The folded edge is then cut off of both ½ yard pieces, which yields four pieces that measure approximately 18"x 22". This fourth of the yard is called "fat" in contrast to the regular "skinny" quarter which measures 9"x44"
What can you get from a FAT quarter?
80 = 2" squares
35 = 3" squares
20 = 4" squares
12 = 5" squares
6 = 6" squares
